St. Elmo's Fire: a Phenomenological Investigation of Glory
The curious banding seen in this image, made at 14,000 feet during an electrical event, is a charged plasma field made visible as it arced through ice axe, climbing hardware, and my DSLR in the moment this image was made -- St. Elmo's Fire made visible in daylight hours on my camera's sensor. Which, amazingly, was not damaged by this phenomenon.
