Winter Climbing Season and New Field Work, 2024
I thought it would be interesting to share some recent images that have had some staying power through the editorial process here on the home page of my website. I'll be rotating them from time to time, so come back when you have a moment to see what's new.
Lake of Glass transcends its name in the winter, as glass becomes ice, and the December light refracts across its numinous surface. The same can be said for Sky Pond, sitting just above Lake of Glass in the cirque where I made this image, high in Rocky Mountain National Park. On both lakes there were large circles of raised and serrated ice, sitting just above the glasslike polish of the frozen water. With the Sharkstooth above and the ice formation below, I knew that the opportunity to observe this convergence of elements was both transient and transforming: such occurrences are fleeting and rare, and I was lucky to have witnessed it.
